Meet Your Trainer: Joan McBride, CFRE, FAHP, MBA, President & CEO, Greatrake, McBride & Associates
Joan has devoted her entire professional career to the nonprofit sector, beginning with a fundraising internship at her undergraduate alma mater, UC Irvine, in 1981. After graduation, she spent the next 13 years as a fundraising executive with several nonprofit hospitals, including Hoag Hospital.
Since forming her consulting practice in 1996, Joan has worked with more than 70 nonprofit organizations on a variety of projects in the areas of fund development, strategic planning and marketing communications. She is also affiliated with the Interim Executives Academy, a firm that specializes in training and placing interim executives with nonprofit organizations. She was named the Academy’s Interim of the Year in 2015.
In addition to a BA in Psychology from UCI, Joan earned an MBA with an emphasis in marketing from California State University, Long Beach. She is a past president of the Southern California Association for Healthcare Development (SCAHD) and currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Association of Fundraising Professionals’ Orange County Chapter. She co-chaired the chapter’s National Philanthropy Day in 2020 and 2021 and was recognized as the chapter’s Outstanding Professional Fundraiser in 2020. Joan is also a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) and a Fellow of the Association of Healthcare Philanthropy (FAHP).
