250 Volunteers from 14 Companies Join Forces to Participate in a Combined Service Project in Orange County

Tustin, California, May 20, 2017 – Approximately 250 volunteers will join together for a series of beautification projects at Thorman Elementary and Currie Middle Schools in Tustin.  Over the course of approximately three hours, volunteers from 14 of Orange County’s top companies will pitch in to complete projects including painting murals, library restoration, revitalizing garden areas and more.

This is the fifth, company-combined volunteer project that has been planned and executed by the Corporate Volunteer Council of Orange County (CVCOC), a member network of companies committed to employee volunteerism. The CVCOC was launched in January 2012 by OneOC, a nonprofit 501c3 organization committed to accelerating nonprofit success through volunteer, giving, training, consulting and business services.

Volunteer groups will beautify targeted areas to create a clean and peaceful environment, paint murals and playground artwork.  A local artist from Operation Clean Slate, a nonprofit based in Costa Mesa, will also be on hand to paint a logo mural on the main campus, as multiple building and painting projects are completed by volunteers.  Behr, a member of the CVCOC, will be donating paint to be used for the outdoor murals and painting projects throughout the campus as well. Additionally, the Thorman Elementary School library will undergo restoration, with volunteers building new bookshelves, organizing and shelving books for the school’s lending library. Taco Bell will donate their official Taco Truck to serve lunch to volunteers on site.

“The Thorman community is so excited about the Corporate Volunteer Project on May 20. The generosity of time and resources for our school has us all in awe,” says Deanna Parks, principal of Thorman Elementary School. “Because of the condition our school was in, the District recently completed a remodel project which we are grateful for but this special day of teamwork and volunteerism will add special touches to our school that we never dreamed of. Each and every one of us send our sincere gratitude for everyone involved showing our students and families how much you care.”

“On behalf of the students, staff and parents of Currie Middle School, we are so appreciative and humbled by the generosity of those involved with the Corporate Volunteer Project. The projects will benefit all of Currie’s students, but the work done for the Special Education classes is especially important,” says Erick Fineberg, principal of Currie Middle School. “The Recycling Center will support the life skills of our moderate to severe students, along with the shade structures that will allow our medically fragile students to spend longer periods of time outdoors.  Our fine arts classes will see a significant boost as well thanks to the upgrades provided by the generous donations of time and money by these wonderful partners. A sincere thank you on behalf of all of Currie. “

Participating companies and in-kind sponsors include Behr, BJ’s Restaurants Foundation, Cox Communications, Cummins Inc., Disneyland Resort, First American, In-N-Out Burgers, Macy’s, Mazda, PAAMCO, Pacific Dental Services, Pacific Life, PIMCO, Taco Bell Corp., TaxAudit.com, Wells Fargo, and Western Digital.
