Orange County companies The Home Depot and PIMCO to unite with community members in making a "day off" a "day on" of volunteering.

SANTA ANA, Calif., Jan. 10, 2012 – Volunteers in Orange County have generously answered the call to help others in honor of the example set by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and, in turn, set an example for many others to follow.

For a dozen years, volunteers have assembled food boxes for the hungry and harvested crops for those in need of food, restored natural habitats, repaired and cleaned books, sorted and packed medical supplies, and participated in cleaning, painting and refurbishment projects at nonprofits around the county.

Again this year, community-minded volunteers and worthy projects are being matched up by OneOC, formerly Volunteer Center Orange County, as a part of the organization' annual day of reflective community service to acknowledge the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The activities are planned for Saturday, January 14 through Monday, January 16, 2012 with materials for some projects donated by The Home Depot.

OneOC President and CEO Daniel J. McQuaid noted, "Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, 'Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?'' We hope that volunteers will join their friends, neighbors and co-workers in giving something back to the community in honor of the example set by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  This is a time for people from all walks of life to work together to provide solutions to many of our pressing local and national problems."
