Tables in the Grand Ballroom at Anaheim’s Disneyland Hotel were set for 1,100 guests, with glasses of iced tea and colorful candy centerpieces that they were invited to take home. Bank of America, Walmart and UnitedHealth Group are all local companies that were ranked nationally in the Civic 50, an annual study released by Bloomberg Business, National Conference on Citizenship (NCoC) and Points of Light, which identifies the nation’s most community-minded businesses. Orange County boasts a large number of community-engaged companies. In fact, 40% of the companies ranked in the Civic 50 have a presence here in Orange County, including Walmart, UnitedHealth Group, Bank of America, AT&T, State Street Corp., Gap, UPS and Abbott.
This year, OneOC will honor Habitat for Humanity of Orange County and The Home Depot with its 2014 “Giving is Living Nonprofit/Corporate Volunteer Partnership Award” for the two organizations’ exemplary collaborative effort called “Veterans Build” that culminated in the repair of 30 veterans’ homes.
